5 Malaysian Undergraduate Scholarships for STPM & Foundation Leavers

For many STPM/Foundation/Matriculation leavers, taking the next step towards your tertiary education can be a major point in life. It is of course in the best interest of students to reflect and pursue the degrees (or equivalent) that is best aligned to their passion and career aspirations. However, university can also prove to be a huge investment for some due to the hefty fees that accompany the degree programs. This is where securing a full (or even partial) scholarship can help to reduce any financial burdens and open doors for STPM or foundation leavers to pursue their future undertakings.

We compiled a list of scholarships targeted at all STPM, foundation, and matriculation leavers who wish to secure a scholarship for their tertiary education:

1. KPMG ASEAN Scholarship

KPMG is a global professional service firm and also one of the Big Four, providing a range of services such as audit, tax and advisory services, and even consulting. Established in 2015, the KPMG ASEAN Scholarship is open to all Southeast Asian undergraduates looking to kickstart their career with a professional services firm. As a KPMG ASEAN scholar, you can expect to be exposed to a structured program with diverse learning opportunities and cross-border collaborations.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must a Malaysian citizen
  • Minimum 3.2 CGPA or 2nd upper for its equivalent at pre-university level
  • Minimum 6As in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), and obtained minimum B for English and Mathematics
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.
  • A strong leader who possesses ASEAN and global mindset.

2. Gamuda Scholarship 2018

Gamuda Berhad is an engineering, property, and infrastrusture company based in Malaysia. Many iconic infrastructure projects such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), highways and tunnels are being undertaken by Gamuda with great success. Gamuda is now offering scholarships for students to study both local and overseas (only for engineering courses – civil, mechanical, electrical or environmental engineering)

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must a Malaysian citizen with a Malaysian IC, between the age of 17 and 23 years old
  • Minimum 3As in the recent STPM or equivalent (i.e. A-Levels, Matriculation, Foundation, Diploma)
  • A good command of English, leadership qualities, right values and character, drive and a commitment to excel
  • Willing to serve the Gamuda Group for a specified period upon graduation

3. Great Eastern Supremacy Scholarship 2018

Great Eastern is the largest life insurance company in Malaysia and Singapore. Great Eastern Supremacy Scholarship is leading programme in the insurance industry. Since 1998, Great Eastern has been providing opportunities to hundreds of talented, deserving, young talents to pursue their tertiary education.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must a Malaysian citizen with a Malaysian IC, below 22 years old
  • Minimum 3.5 CGPA or its equivalent at pre-university level (STPM / Foundation/Matriculation) or 2As and 1B for A-Levels / Foundation
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.

4. OCBC Public Scholarship 2018

As one of the leading pioneers in Malaysia’s financial industry, OCBC has a philosophy to nurture talented individuals by providing them with access to quality education. Since the 1970s, the OCBC Public Scholarship has been providing financial assistance to aid bright young talents to achieve their ambitions as well as expand their horizons.

This scholarship is open to students who are currently studying, have gained admission, or are eligible for admission in 1st year full-time undergraduate studies at selected Malaysian universities.

Application Criteria:

  • Minimum 7As in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM); or 5As in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
  • Minimum 2As in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); or 2As in GCE A-Level
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 in Matriculation/Foundation Studies
  • Held leadership positions in extra-curricular activities, societies and clubs in school
  • Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.50 in Matriculation/Foundation Studies
  • Family household monthly income of below RM 5,000

5. UEM Group Scholarship Program

United Engineers Malaysia Berhad or UEM Group is a Malaysian engineering-based infrastructure and services conglomerate with an established track record in both the public and private sectors. For many years, the UEM Group Scholarship Programme has been their annual initiative to support the nation’s objectives of nurturing talented scholars and creating a sustainable talent supply chain to develop the future leaders in the nation. For STPM, Matriculation, and Foundation leavers, recipient of the scholarship can undergo their undergraduate studies in a wide range of top local universities, such as University Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia (UM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), and many others. Scholars will also be exposed to leadership trainings with job attachments within the UEM Group throughout the programme.

 

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must a Malaysian citizen
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 (or equivalent) in their STPM/Matriculation/Foundation studies, with results announced recently for university enrolment in September
  • Proficient in English, hardworking, and possess positive personality traits
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.
