7 Malaysian Undergraduate Scholarships for STPM & Foundation Leavers

For many STPM/Foundation/Matriculation leavers, taking the next step towards your tertiary education can be a major point in life. It is of course in the best interest of students to reflect and pursue the degrees (or equivalent) that is best aligned to their passion and career aspirations. However, university can also prove to be a huge investment for some due to the hefty fees that accompany the degree programs. Hence, this is where securing full (or even partial) undergraduate scholarships can help to reduce any financial burdens and open doors for STPM or foundation leavers to pursue their future undertakings.

We compiled a list of scholarships targeted at all STPM, foundation, and matriculation leavers who wish to secure a scholarship for their tertiary education:

 

1. KPMG ASEAN Scholarship

KPMG is a global professional service firm and also one of the Big Four, providing a range of services such as audit, tax and advisory services, and even consulting. Established in 2015, the KPMG ASEAN Scholarship is open to all Southeast Asian undergraduates looking to kickstart their career with a professional services firm. As a KPMG ASEAN scholar, you can expect to be exposed to a structured program with diverse learning opportunities and cross-border collaborations.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must be a Malaysian citizen who studies in public or private universities in Malaysia
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or 2nd Upper Class or other equivalent qualification
  • SPM with a minimum 6As
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.
  • A strong leader who possesses ASEAN and global mindset.

2. Gamuda Scholarship

Gamuda Berhad is an engineering, property, and infrastrusture company based in Malaysia. Many iconic infrastructure projects such as Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), highways and tunnels are being undertaken by Gamuda with great success. Gamuda is now offering scholarships for students to study not only in public but also private universities in Malaysia, specifically for those who want to pursue engineering, quantity surveying, township & urban planning, property & real estate management, geomatics and architecture.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must be a Malaysian citizen with a Malaysian IC, between the age of 19 and 23 years old
  • Minimum 3As in the recent STPM or equivalent (i.e. A-Levels, Matriculation, Foundation, Diploma)
  • Good command of English
  • Strong leadership qualities through active participation in extra-curricular activities
  • Willing to serve the Gamuda Group for a specified period upon graduation

3. Great Eastern Supremacy Scholarship

To this date, Great Eastern is still the largest life insurance company in Malaysia and Singapore. Currently, Great Eastern Supremacy Scholarship is the leading programme in the insurance industry. Since 1998, Great Eastern has been providing opportunities to hundreds of talented, deserving, young talents to pursue their tertiary education.

Additionally, their sponsored courses include but not limited to Accounting & Finance, Actuarial Science, Biomedical, Business Administration, Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Marketing and Mass Communication.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must be a Malaysian citizen with a Malaysian IC, below 22 years old
  • Minimum 3.5 CGPA or its equivalent at pre-university level (STPM / Foundation/Matriculation) or 2As and 1B for A-Levels / Foundation
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.

4. OCBC Public Scholarship

As one of the leading pioneers in Malaysia’s financial industry, OCBC has a philosophy to nurture talented individuals by providing them with access to quality education. Since the 1970s, the OCBC Public Scholarship has been providing financial assistance to aid bright young talents to achieve their ambitions as well as expand their horizons.

Moreover, this scholarship is open to students who are currently studying, have gained admission, or are eligible for admission in 1st year full-time undergraduate studies at selected Malaysian universities.

Application Criteria:

  • Minimum 7As in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM); or 5As in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
  • Minimum 2As in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); or 2As in GCE A-Level
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 in Matriculation/Foundation Studies
  • Held leadership positions in extra-curricular activities, societies and clubs in school
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 in existing first year undergraduates
  • Family household monthly income of below RM 5,000

5. UEM Group Scholarship Program

United Engineers Malaysia Berhad or UEM Group is a Malaysian engineering-based infrastructure and services conglomerate with an established track record in both the public and private sectors. For many years, the UEM Group Scholarship Programme has been their annual initiative to support the nation’s objectives of nurturing talented scholars and creating a sustainable talent supply chain to develop the future leaders in the nation. For STPM, Matriculation, and Foundation leavers, recipient of the scholarship can undergo their undergraduate studies in a wide range of top local universities, such as University Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaysia (UM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), and many others. Scholars will also be exposed to leadership trainings with job attachments within the UEM Group throughout the programme.

Application Criteria:

  • The scholarship candidate must be a Malaysian citizen
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.50 (or equivalent) in their STPM/Matriculation/Foundation studies, with results announced recently for university enrolment in September
  • Proficient in English, hardworking, and possess positive personality traits
  • Strong leadership skills and active participation in extracurricular activities such as societies and clubs, sports, etc.

6. Maybank Group Scholarship Programme

Granting scholarships to deserving Malaysian students to pursue their tertiary education has been a key feature of Maybank’s CSR efforts since 1972. Their scholars are known to benefit from this programme by obtaining access to quality undergraduate education in many disciplines that are applicable to banking and finance. Furthermore, full scholarships are awarded to selected students to study at top-tier universities in Malaysia, Australia, United Kingdom and United States of America.

The scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and enrolment fees, tablet and related expenses including books, accommodation as well as living allowances. As a result, scholars are bonded with the bank and the programme offers employment opportunities after graduation.

Application Criteria:

For Local Studies in Malaysia Public Universities:

  • Total gross household income of not more than RM80,000 per annum
  • Currently pursuing 1st year undergraduate studies in local public universities
  • Not more than 22 years of age
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent

For Overseas Studies:

  • Total gross household income of not more than RM150,000 per annum
  • Currently pursuing Foundation programme and have obtained admission to pursue full-time degree in selected universities in UK, US and Australia
  • Not more than 20 years of age
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent

7. CIMB ASEAN Scholarship

CIMB Group is a leading ASEAN universal bank that commits towards helping young talent in need to realise their dreams. Their ASEAN Scholarship programme provides exciting professional development as well as a mentor support system designed to empower the region’s young talent to turn their lives around and make a difference for those around them.

CIMB welcomes applicants from a wide variety of academic disciplines. In addition, their previous scholars include majors in Computer Science and Engineering apart from Accounting, Economics, Law and Finance.

Application Criteria:

  • Aged 24 years and below
  • A citizen of either Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam or Philippines
  • Monthly household income of not more than RM15,000 per month (Malaysian applicants)
  • Expecting acceptance to pursue undergraduate studies within any academic discipline at a reputable university
  • Excellent academic track record and active in curricular activities
