The Future of Technology is Here : A VR Experience to Commemorate the ACA Graduation Ceremony 2020 by ICAEW

At the start of this year, no one would have predicted that students around the world would shift their way of study from classroom setting onto online environment. Through 2020 many graduates had to forego the usual graduation ceremonies to celebrate this happy occasion with classmates, lecturers, and families due to the pandemic. All social gatherings and physical events had to be scrapped across many countries. However not letting the pandemic affect their graduations, many students turned to alternative ways to commemorate this special, once in a lifetime event through videos, meeting platforms and going on to social media to celebrate their graduations, virtually.

This was what ICAEW Singapore did. They created a graduation ceremony with a twist! Without letting the Covid-19 restrictions deter them from organising a one-of-a-kind virtual ceremony by tapping on the wonders of technology. Their graduates and students were treated to a unique experience to mark this momentous occasion and to celebrate excellence.

The ICAEW ACA Graduation and Award Ceremony 2020 took place on 13 November. This virtual ceremony was officiated by ICAEW President, David Matthews, who joined the event live from the UK and he was joined by Mark Billington, ICAEW Regional Director of Greater China & South-East Asia. ICAEW manage to bring this unique experience to those present through cutting-edge virtual reality technology.

The entire graduation ceremony proceeding replicates the real-life event in a virtual ballroom setting. It allows students and their family members to join in the celebration from any locations in Singapore and abroad. The video of the ceremony proceeding showcased 3D avatars of this year’s graduates and top achievers of the recent ACA examinations in the CFAB, Professional and Advance levels. Students get to see themselves going on-stage to receive awards from David and have photos taken with him during the ceremony, and get to share this special moment with their families and loved ones.

Congratulations once again to all the 2020 ICAEW ACA graduates for completing one of the world’s most rigorous learning and professional development programmes and to all high achievers in the 2020 ICAEW ACA examinations. You are one step closer to becoming a globally recognised chartered accountant!
