My Department and I

victoria lim cimb imageHi, I am Victoria and I graduated from Accounting and Finance. I joined CIMB as a management trainee through The Complete Banker Programme with a degree in Accounting and Finance. I had the impression that my degree will naturally prepare me for what I assumed would be conventional banking. Little did I know that is not the case.

So here I am today attached to the Digital Banking Department. My experience working here is challenging, nothing short of an eye-opener, and most importantly, it has changed how I perceived the banking industry.

Being here has given me a better understanding on how technology has impacted and changed the banking landscape. As the banking industry continues to evolve, banks need talents of diverse skill sets and beyond banking in order to compete and stay relevant in this era.

 

My Journey as a Business Analyst

As a business analyst under the Cognitive Banking team, a product management centric role, I work with a wonderful team to manage CIMB’s chatbot app known as CIMB EVA. In addition to maintaining the overall functionalities and performance of the app, we also assist in coming up with new personal financial management capabilities.

The role allows me to gain a holistic and in depth knowledge on how new app features are created from scratch as I get to be involved in the process, from ideation to building, and implementing these new app features in the market.

I learnt to jointly collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders in developing our new app features. It has also helped me to improve my people management skills, communication skills, as well as my overall confidence level. Given the opportunity to be exposed in the technical part of the process flow; I’ve learnt about the new digital capabilities or tools that are available outside of the banking ecosystem, allowing me to be more creative in my work.

 

Concluding Remarks

In short, I feel that I am able to learn and grow as a Business Analyst, which is essential for my career and personal development. I get to be exposed to many areas of digital banking and gain invaluable insights on the digital aspects of banking operations on a daily basis. It is never a dull moment here!
